Writing copy for the webWriting copy for the web on your website is exactly the same as copywriting offline. It has been proven time and again that long sales letters out pull sales more than mere product summaries. There are loads of reasons for this and we'll go into this in a moment. The best thing to think about is all the direct mail you get through your letter box at home or work. Most you'll throw away but some you will keep and act upon. Think about why you are doing this. So the best copy for the web is direct response or direct mail. These are generally 6/10 pages (of web pages) in length. Go to a site you love that has a long sales letter and press the page down and count how many clicks you have to do. This is the number of pages online. Through your copy you should be providing a) stories around the problems the user has and b) the benefits of your product and how it solves this problem Essentials for your copywritingWithin your copy you'll need to get trust from your prospects. Why on earth should they buy from you? Why are you so great? So you'll need to state why you're an expert BUT not talk about you -- talk about why that you are an expert you can solve their problems! Other things to add are online security. After all, you probably are an unbranded company so security of online purchase is paramount. The best sales letters tell a story of why YOU were looking for the problem that your user has and how you stumbled upon a great solution that is now your product. People love stories and WILL read them. They then start to trust you and can see how you tried to solve the problem and now you have !! A few copy basicsOk so people are interested. There are a few other things that tend to improve conversion. These are a) testimonials from satisfied customers b) a guarantee to lower the risk of buying c) an obvious way to purchase.
