Update your business plan on a regular basis

Your business does not stop today - and neither should your planning efforts.

When you first write your plan you will have mapped out when you want to take your business over the next 3 years - and over the next 12 months in detail.

However, things change.

Some of your action plans may not have developed how you wish - they may cost more and you need to cut back on other activities.

Your competitors may have seen what you are trying to achieve and are fighting back.

Do not stand still

I suggest you update your plan at least every 3 months

Review your achievements against your plan
Update your SWOT (from your internal and external analysis)
Update your financials
Update your actions plans

Your plan is a journey of your business and in that respect will never end. Do not just think planning is a one off exercise. Once you have done it initially it will be easier to undertake every 3 months.
