Meta tags

Each web page has 'hidden' information, called 'meta' tags, describing your site. Some search engines use this information to index your site.

When you add this 'meta' information it must reflect your overall site. Do not add popular search terms to generate traffic that has nothing to do with your site - you may be banned by search engines.

Title Tag

The TITLE tag is what you see at the top of your Internet Explorer browser for each web page you visit. Do not put 'index' or 'home page' as this means nothing to the user or the search engine. Instead describe your business or the specific page and keep it to 6 words. It is also the title of your web site on the result of some search engine queries so is the most important tag. EG: Business plans, internet marketing and web design

Description tag

The DESCRIPTION tag is similar to the title tag but it's describing your site and will be sometimes displayed in the results of a search engine query under the title of your site. Keep to 10 words. EG: A consultancy developing market winning business plans, internet marketing and web design

Keywords

The KEYWORDS tag defines what keywords apply to your web page and not the key words you want your page to be ranked under. Separate each phrase/ word with a comma. Keep to 15 words. EG: business plan, business plans, internet marketing, web design, marketing,
